Description

In “Rehabilitation of Water Transmission Mains; Two Case Histories”, the authorshares two situations he personally experienced involving the rehabilitation of a48-inch precast concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) transmission main and a 24-inchductile iron river crossing. In both of these situations, two brief videos willbe shown which will illustrate the techniques used during the actual repair. Thefirst video, entitled “Finding the Better Way”, lasts seven minutes and showsreal-time repair of 22 joints of the 48-inch main using a method of internalsealing, with workers inside the pipeline, thus eliminating costly and disruptiveexcavation. The second nine minute video shows an innovative slipliningtechnique of a 1000-foot section of 24-inch ductile iron river crossing pipeunder the Kanawha River by insertion of 20-inch high density polyethelene pipe(HDPE). This repair was featured in “The Source” Magazine in January, 2000 and isentitled “Bending the Rules”. The 48-inch repair saved over $300,000, while theriver crossing repair saved $400,000. Copies of these videos will be providedupon request to the author.
